In Animate (2013)
In Animate is a piece of devised performance that explores the border region between materiality and humanity. It blurs the lines between person and object, and probes the aspects of being human that keep us bounded to nature and those that keep us separate from it. In Animate exposes the limits of subject-object intimacy and excavates the crude components of a self.
“Poor body, poor capsule body cage. Squirming to somehow contain this sticky soul stuff... Surrender to the threads that define you. Sit still on the shelf and wait for the next homeland to claim you.”
In Animate was performed at the Grahamstown National Arts Festival (South Africa) in 2013.
